I was away last week and thought I'd try and capture some "plant" pictures....I am not a HUGE fan of pictures without people as I always struggle to get a good angle...Anyway I was inspired to try out a few "flower" shots by all the great postings I've seen here on Am3....

All I can say is I've tried it, think I need a few pointers and a lot more practise. Your comments and pointers are all VERY welcome. I have 2 more coming, so comment away!! :)

I like this! The tall long feature of the plant gives it an interesting angle!! I look forward to seeing your other one's!!

Nice composition, Mandy, but it seems a little soft looking as far as focus is concerned.

The colors and texture are very pleasing. I like the geometry of the blades of green as they stick in all directions. That one flower stalk is just jutting into the focal area and is quite dramatic. Alas, the flowers appear to have seen their better days and are on a decline.

All in all, it's a nice simple flower shot. Not bad for starters, for somebody who prefers to do people scenes. Keep looking; keep shooting. Get in there, up close like you would with people, and trust your instincts; follow the colors and patterns. You have an excellent eye.

@Viewfinder: Hi VF. Thanks so much for the pointers. I will definitely keep that in mind. I didn't even notice that half of those flowers were way past their best..hahaha. Now I have a point of reference to work from in terms of what to look out for to make the next ones a bit more dramatic and eye catching! i think that this is a pretty image. It is slightly blurred and this gives the image a softness to it. Good job!

Nice focus on the crossing of the two flower stems (if that's what you intended), I like the overall colour scheme, too.
